Blue Sky State of Mind

Hi, I'm Hilary. I'm a yogi, coffee addict, and hopeless romantic, with a serious case of wanderlust. I love swing sets, jumping in puddles, teacups, headstands, books, and cookies.
I solemnly swear that I'm up to no good.

I’ve begun to realize that you can listen to silence and learn from it. It has a quality and a dimension all its own.

I couldn’t find my real notebook. May 18, 2012

Often in life we tend to focus all our energy on what’s wrong. Whether it’s something that feels “off” or something that we can plainly see, we become focused on seeking it out, destroying it, and replacing it with something stable and comfortable. In our world there is no place for this state in our everyday lives. Some people may tell you to “just let it go”, some people may tell you to “just get through it”, some people may tell you it’s “just a phase”, some people may tell you that’s “just the way life is”. It is always an acknowledgment of “yes things suck right now, but they will get better”.

But that’s the problem. In this “waiting” for life to get better, that becomes half of all we ever end up doing. Waiting. Life is a roller coaster, yes. But there’s no reason, when the roller coaster gets to the bottom, to hide under the covers and just wait around for life to get better. Because while you are sitting there, waiting, you fail to realize - this is your life! It’s happening, right now, and if you’re sitting there waiting, it’s damn well happening without you. So.

Don’t hate your down moments, love them.

Love the tears, love the fights, love the people you hate, love the mundane chores, love the birds that wake you up too early, love the extra five pounds, love the sunburns, love the bad movies you wasted your money on, love the driver who cut you off in traffic, love the distance, love the sick days, love the clouds.

Laugh at the things no one else laughs at, smile at people whether they need it or not, stop and smell the roses, and then stop and smell the dandelions that forced their way through the concrete sidewalk.

Paint something beautiful and give it away for free. Let moments become memories. Don’t let your possessions define you. Never buy something that you couldn’t throw away.

Revel in failure; cherish falling over. These are the moments that transform you.

Enjoy wrong turns, dead ends, inconvenient stop signs, U-turns, and roundabouts.

Take your time, but don’t waste it.

We are here for a mere instant inside of an eternity, it’s what you do with that time that matters.

This song gets me stoked on life.

GET STOKED!
